Retro post...

I just found the below in my Facebook notes (remember when they were a thing??) and thought it was actually quite interesting, and mostly still true.

day 01 - your favourite song
Paper Thin Hymn – Anberlin
Not many people might know that, but there is something about this song that reminds me of so many good things and has such an amazing power to move me that I just can’t ever tire of hearing it.

day 02 - your least favourite song
Ruby – Kaiser Chiefs
There are so many songs that are just too rude or too loud or too silly for my tastes, but this song betrayed my love of the band, was universally beloved but just makes me feel urrrrrgh. Horrid. Sorry to anyone called Ruby, it’s not you, it’s them.

day 03 - a song that makes you happy
You Can’t Stop The Beat - Hairspray
It is just happiness in a song :D

day 04 - a song that makes you sad
Landslide – Fleetwood Mac
Listen and you’ll understand.

day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
Trains To Brazil – Guillemots
I still think of you on cold winter mornings, they remind me of when we were at school.

day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere
Human – The Killers
This reminds me of G1 landing in third term of first year, when it was always blasting from Sarah’s room :)

day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt.1 – The Flaming Lips
This is really random, but this reminds me of sports day in year 11 when I bought this album in HMV and went down to the track even though I had just done my GCSEs and had nothing to do and I sat in the 2006 sunshine and listened to the album on my CD walkman (lol) on repeat all afternoon. I think that’s what happened. And if it’s not, that’s how I remember it.

day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
Love Story – Taylor Swift
This could also have been any song at all by Taylor Swift, or indeed most songs I like. If I like a song, I’ll like to sing the song, and to sing a song, you need to know the words.

day 09 - a song that you can dance to
Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson
Because it’s awesome. The video is amazing too.

day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
Everything’ll Be Alright (Will’s Lullaby) – Joshua Radin
It’s literally a lullaby written for a baby (Will, obviously) and it’s so soft and gentle and reassuring, it just takes the edge off the worst days.

day 11 - a song from your favourite band
Time For Heroes – The Libertines
I don’t really have a favourite band as such, but if I did, this might be it.

day 12 - a song from a band you hate
Snow – Red Hot Chilli Peppers
NO VIDEO, TOO HORRIBLE
I just hate things that are funky, and I have bad, bad school memories of this song. Their music is the most overrated on the PLANET and literally makes me feel nauseous. No word of a lie.

day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
Friday – Rebecca Black
I don’t believe in feeling guilty for things that you like, and nobody should ever be made to feel ashamed of their tastes, but since the backlash against this song has been quite so strong, I do feel a little weird about how much I genuinely love it. I listen to it every Friday morning to help me get ready for the day. But only on Fridays.

day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
The Partisan – Leonard Cohen
Because of the aforementioned lack of guilt, I don’t think people have many expectations about my musical tastes really, but maybe this one is a bit unusual. But I love it.

day 15 - a song that describes you
Never Grow Up – Taylor Swift
Obviously it doesn’t really describe me, but it taps into a lot of my feelings lately...

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
With Every Heartbeat - Robyn
I loved this song for a long time, but now her grating voice on basically the same note throughout just gives me a headache.

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
Blind Faith – Chase & Status
I guess they just play it a lot. I don’t really get music like this...

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
The House That Built Me – Miranda Lambert
Or any of that not-aggressively-country country music that is ignored by the UK because of its accent or because it’s got real instruments on it and isn’t about sex or being literally in the nightclub where it’s designed to be played. Sigh.

day 19 - a song from your favourite album
Sparks Fly – Taylor Swift (from Speak Now)
I know it’s a bold choice, but this is an amazing album. I wish I could choose something cooler but honestly there isn’t a bad track on here and it is incredibly dear to my heart.

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry
Seventy Times 7 – Brand New
Because he’s way angrier than I am and that always makes me feel better. Plus it rocks. “As if it happening wasn’t enough I got to go and write a song just to remind myself how bad it sucked.”

day 21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy
Chicken Fried – Zac Brown Band
It depends why I’m happy, but if it’s a general contentedness with life, then this song is awesome for reflecting that.

day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad
When The Tears Fall – Tim Hughes
It always makes me realise what matters and reminds me of all the other times I’ve listened to it when I’m sad and how I always made it through.

day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding
Don’t You Want Me Baby – The Human League
I honestly couldn’t say on the romantic side, but it it’s a party then this MUST be cracked out.

day 24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral
It would really depend on the circumstances, don’t you think? (Although I will admit that ‘Titanic’ is my all-time favourite movie. Take from that what you will...)

day 25 - a song that makes you laugh
I’m On A Boat – The Lonely Island
Because it’s funny.

day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument
War Of The Worlds – Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly
This is my party piece and by far the most difficult piece I can play (I use the word ‘play’ loosely)

day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
Defying Gravity – Wicked
Because I think an acoustic guitar version of this would be kickass. Plus I wish I could sing it well too.

day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
Turpentine – Brandi Carlile
This song makes me feel guilty because it makes me think about things that have been lost.

day 29 - a song from your childhood
Disco 2000 - Pulp
This song came out just before I turned 6 and I remember listening to this on the radio when I was little and the year 2000 seemed far away. Side note: I always thought he's singing “on that damp and lonely 30 years ago.” He’s not.

day 30 - your favourite song at this time last year
If Only – Hanson
I was just getting into their second album This Time Around (it’s amazing, if you were wondering) and discovered this gem of a song :D
